Chick-fil-A’s plan to boost dinnertime business with family meals tempted SmartBrief readers this week, pushing it to the top of the list of most-read food and beverage stories. The chain is testing the meals, which include dinner for four starting at $29.99, in three markets and they would compete head-on with KFC’s buckets if they’re successful enough to roll out nationwide.

Meals also made the number two spot – namely, a trademark filing by Amazon detailing plans to create its own meal kit brand with the tagline “We do the prep. You be the chef.” Currently, the e-commerce giant sells meal kits from other brands, including Tyson Foods and Martha Stewart.

Stories set in the grocery store also ranked high with readers this week, from the launch of a Cinnamon Toast Crunch-flavored frozen dessert to Lidl’s efforts to market its efficiency on social media to Harris Teeter’s growth plans in North Carolina.
