Southeastern Grocers, which this week announced the sale of 46 Bi-Lo and 16 Harveys stores to Food Lion, will continue its planned phase-out of the Bi-Lo banner by selling pharmacy files from Bi-Lo and Harveys to Walgreens and CVS during the next two weeks. Once the sale to Food Lion is complete in 2021, SEG will have 61 Bi-Lo sites remaining and the company says it is exploring options for the stores, including another potential sale.
C&S Wholesale Grocers has joined with Instacart to offer e-commerce and same-day delivery options for the grocer's 3,000-plus US stores. The new partnership will give the C&S network access to Instacart's online marketplace and help build its delivery offerings, with pickup services expected to be added later.

Humble Independent School District in Texas will continue its free meal distribution program through June 29; staff members distributed more than 5,000 meals to students on its first day of meal services back in March when schools closed. L'Oreal is debuting packaging that replaces 45% of its plastic content with paperboard for the La Roche-Posay sunscreen brand in France with other markets to follow. L'Oreal plans to use the packaging developed with global firm Albea, for other brands also "in as many countries as possible," said Othman Bennis, La Roche-Posay's international marketing and innovation manager.
Natural deodorant brand Schmidt's has tapped Jerry Harris, who co-starred in the Netflix documentary series "Cheer," to lead the brand's #GoSchmidts campaign. Benexia is growing its chia-based Seeds of Wellness brand to include a shelf-stable plant-based milk in three varieties. Expanding the Chile-based brand in the US is consuming 80% of its focus, said Seeds of Wellness commercial director Bas Ruijten, with a US retail launch for the new items set for mid-summer.
Hershey made several strides last year toward corporate social responsibility targets by helping more than 51,000 cocoa farmers increase yields and training nearly 22,000 farmers in crop diversification, according to a company statement. Hershey is also following guidelines from the Science-Based Targets Initiative that will determine its carbon emissions goals for 2021.
Groups representing farmers in Ontario have raised concerns that pandemic-related labor shortages this season could take a toll on the harvest. The groups are pushing for government assistance to help farmers attract more workers and gain access to personal protective gear and farm equipment.
