Top 10: Unilever’s new work-from-home policy, Albertsons’ partnership with Pinterest
This week’s Top 10 list was heavy on news from consumer packaged goods companies. Earlier in the week, Unilever announced that all of its remote corporate employees are required to work within a 24-hour traveling distance from the office in order to attend in-person meetings with a day’s notice. The manufacturer’s chief human resources officer, Leena Nair, said Unilever created the policy after many people asked if they could work from a different country.
Stories about CPG executives sharing business strategies also proved popular in the rankings. Matthew McCarthy, CEO of Ben & Jerry’s, discussed how the ice cream brand takes purpose-driven actions, even when people may disagree with the company’s stance on an important issue. General Mills executives gave insight into the food manufacturer’s “Accelerate” marketing plan and how it is bringing retail and e-commerce purchases together.
The top story on this week’s most-clicked list was about food retailer Albertsons teaming up with social media service Pinterest to release an artificial intelligence-enabled digital tool for interactive shopping and meal planning. The companies’ platform was designed to help users decide what to eat for dinner each night. In other retail news, supermarket chain Coborn’s marked its 100th year of being in business.
SmartBrief’s food and beverage readers were also interested in McDonald’s preparing to comply with the federal government’s COVID-19 vaccine order. Several franchisees have taken different approaches, such as offering compensation and establishing vaccination clinics or investing in COVID-19 tests to fulfill testing requirements instead.
Another news item that caught the attention of readers in the foodservice industry was an examination of how supply chain disruptions are affecting businesses trying to purchase new restaurant equipment. Avanti Restaurant Solutions CEO Mark Rossi anticipates that the backlogs and delivery issues are likely to persist through 2022 and possibly into early 2023.
